What is ‘Net Zero’ and why is it so important?

When hearing the term Net Zero, what we’re really talking about is balance.

It’s about balancing the scales between the carbon emissions we create and the carbon we remove from the atmosphere. The common goal for everyone across the world is to make sure that the total amount of greenhouse gases released into the air, like carbon dioxide, is equal to the amount that’s removed or offset through various means.

At Lumina Energy, we get it, you want to do your bit and help towards Net Zero emissions by 2050. However, you might not have the in-house resource, knowledge or an idea of how to get started.

Introducing your Carbon Reduction Plan

This is a SECR and PPN 06/21 compliant statement from your business which identifies and defines your carbon footprint and commitment towards targeting those all-important net zero goals.

Working with you, we will establish your organisation’s existing carbon footprint, enabling us to create a “benchmark” which will form part of your future reporting metrics so you can then compare your emissions reduction progress.

Once you know where you’re at, we’ll help you to set carbon reduction targets utilising our extensive network of partners and suppliers. They can also be on hand to support you in achieving your reduction targets.

Your Roadmap to Net Zero

Step 1: Understanding your current Carbon Footprint

Working with you, we will establish your business’s existing carbon footprint, enabling us to create a “benchmark” which will form part of your future reporting metrics to compare your emissions progress against.

This begins by helping you to obtain the last 12 months of mandatory data. This includes:

Your energy usage (Gas & Electricity)

Any business travel (meetings, fleet of vans etc)

Step 2: Gathering insight using your data

Once the data has been collated/supplied you will then be given access to your very own Carbon Accountancy Software where you can see the data altogether in an easy-to-understand reporting format.

We support you in achieving reductions in your CO2e emissions by helping you set carbon reduction targets utilising our extensive network of partners and suppliers.

Step 3: Supporting your on-going goals

As part of our service, your business will receive a 12-month subscription to our online carbon accountancy software where we will support you in inputting your carbon centric data monthly to monitor progress against your benchmark and carbon reduction targets. This ensures that your data is being verified using official GHG conversion factors.

Quarterly reports will be provided to your business detailing progress made against your benchmark within that reporting period.

Step 4: Quality assessed and authenticated

Your Carbon Reduction Plan will be authenticated, and quality assessed by a 3rd party carbon consultancy giving you peace of mind of the accuracy and quality of your CRP.
